Small Group Breakfast Meeting for URM Scholars

The American Economic Association and its Committee on the Status of Minority Groups in the Economics Profession (CSMGEP) is pleased to sponsor the annual Small Group Breakfast Meeting for Underrepresented Minorities. The event features esteemed special guests each year:

  • 2025: Janet Currie
  • 2024: Janet Currie
  • 2023: Christina Romer, Susan Athey
  • 2020: James Poterba

The goal of this annual event is to provide junior URM scholars access to prominent AEA journal editors, executive board members, thought leaders in specific areas of economics, or other economists to ensure all scholars can build networks and learn elements of the “hidden curriculum.” Space is limited to 20 participants.

A past attendee said, "The CSMGEP breakfast provided opportunities for me to meet leaders in our field to ask important career questions.  It also introduced me to a cohort of economists from similar backgrounds, which is hard to come across.  I recommend this program to anyone looking for more career guidance or a community of scholars who have faced similar challenges."

The 2025 breakfast is at the ASSA conference in San Francisco, CA, and will feature AEA President and Princeton Professor Janet Currie. The deadline to apply is Friday, November 1, 2024 at 5pm EST.
