Yale economist and AEA Vice President Pinelopi K. Goldberg has been appointed chief economist at the World Bank. Announcing the appointment last week, World Bank Group President Jim Yong Kim said Goldberg would “bring her vast academic experience, intellectual rigor, and boundless curiosity” to further the institution’s goals of sustainable growth, shared prosperity, and a world free of extreme poverty. Goldberg is a leading applied microeconomist who is widely cited for her research on developing countries. She is currently a vice president of the AEA and was the first female editor of the AER, a position she held from 2011-2016. She oversaw AER during a period of significant change, in which it expanded from a quarterly publication to eventually being published monthly.
