Do LGBTQ curriculum laws influence where parents send their children to school?

Crystal Zhan is an Associate Professor of Economics at the University of South Carolina. She sat down for an interview at the 2025 AEA poster session to talk about LGBTQ curriculum laws and school choice. She found that inclusive LGBTQ laws increased the probability of a school-aged child enrolling in a private school, and conversely, negative LGBTQ laws decreased the likelihood of private school attendance.
