Professor Matthew Baron is seeking a full-time research assistant interested in working in the fields of banking, financial crises, and financial history. The research assistant will be employed by the National Bureau of Economic Research but will be based at Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business in Washington, DC. This is a one-year appointment starting in summer 2025.
A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in economics, mathematics, computer science, or the physical sciences is preferred. The ideal candidate will have: (i) a strong quantitative background and excellent academic record; (ii) strong programing skills in Stata, R, and similar programming languages; (iii) familiarity with applied econometrics and empirical techniques in finance; (iv) a strong commitment to applying to PhD programs in the near future and to pursuing a career in academic research, (v) an interest in economic history or financial history, and (vi) at least one year of experience as a research assistant in economics or finance (not necessarily full-time).
The research assistant will be involved in all stages of research. Responsibilities will include digitizing and cleaning historical data, managing large datasets, conducting statistical analyses, creating tables and figures, and assisting with the preparation of manuscripts for publication.
